Player Profile Dale Rudge


Dale Anthony Rudge was born in Wolverhampton on 9 September 1963. He began his career as an apprentice for his home town club. He signed professional forms in August 1981 but it wasn't until the 1982/83 before Rudge made his debut helping the club to achieve second place to Queen's Park Rangers in the Second Division.


Rudge's last season with Wolves in 1983/84 saw them relegated back to Division Two after they finished bottom of Division One, 12 points behind second bottom Notts County . He had made 27 league appearances for Wolves.


In July 1984, Rudge joined Preston and made his debut on the opening day of the season with a 2-0 home win against Doncaster.


Rudge made 24 league appearances during the 1984/85 season which saw Rudge suffer his second relegation on the trot as Preston was relegated to the Fourth Division.


Rudge did score his first two league goals in his football career during the season. The first was as a substitute for Willie Naughton in the 4-2 home defeat against York on 19 December. The second turn out to be in his last match of the season on 26 March in a 2-1 win at Doncaster .


Rudge made 24 league appearances during the 1985/86 season which saw Preston finish in 91 st position. His only goal of the season came on 3 September in the First Round Second Leg tie at Blackpool which saw Preston win 3-1 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate.


Rudge's final game for PNE came on 12 April in a 3-1 home defeat to Leyton Orient.


He was released at the end of the season and joined Norwegian side Djvre 1919 before returning to England with non-league Hendersford Town .


Rudge currently coaches at the Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge.
