An early David Nugent strike was enough to seal the victory in this top six clash which sent Preston back into the top two thanks to Derby being held at Burnley.
Preston found the match tough despite having much of the ball whith Colchester defending well. Dichio started the match as Ormerod called in ill on the morning of the game - it is understood more a flu like illness than an injury.
Preston had no forwards on the bench which told towards the end of the match as Lewis Neal finished with Kelvin Wilson up front.
Having said all that the defence was only troubled on a couple of occasions in the second half when Colchester could have nicked a point.
All in all the performance wasn't great but six home points out of six brings Preston into the tough festive period where they will try to keep up their unbeaten home record. No league defeats at Deepdale in 2006 with Leeds and Middlesborough the only teams to win outside of the league means that Preston fans have had a lot to cheer at Deepdale. If the same record can be kept up throughout 2007 then we may be looking at another exciting year.
