Sources close to the club believe that an announcement will be made within the next 48 hours before the Palace game. Three names were drawn up by Lindsay and Hemmings following the dismissal of Darren Ferguson.
Sam Allardyce was approcahed on Thursday but immediately made a statement to the press stating he did not wish to be considered for the Burnley or Preston roles. The other main candidate was Phil Brown who was up until recently favourites with the bookies after being in attendance at several matches this season.
However, the shock candidate appears to be former boss Billy Davies whose odds had dropped from 20-1 to 5-1 in a matter of days when the book was open. Many bookies even suspended betting with a lot of money being placed on Davies to take over.
No formal approach has been made to Forest but it is thought that Hemmings wishes to act quickly to get his man.
