The excuse might be that the games have been coming thick and fast bit both teams played out a fairly tepid ninety minutes in midweek at the New Den.
The closest either side got to scoring was when Preston were awarded a second half penalty when Hughes was fouled in the box. Whiteman hit the post with the spot kick which was fitting with the rest of the game.
Both sides will see this as a missed chance to close the gap towards the teams in the top half who are in the mix for the play off places. Preston now move to Hull in a hope to find some wining form.
