The pick of the action on Tuesday saw Crystal Palace slip up, quite literally judging from the manner in which the decisive goal was scored, to League One Norwich City. A mistake in the Palace defence gifted the ball to striker Grant Holt who was on hand to provide an assist for fellow new-recruit and former Lilywhite. The Bolton born winger let loose with a hard driven shot from 10-yards leaving Speroni in the Crystal Palace goal with no chance.
Other results were as follows:
Carlisle United 1-3 Blackpool
Chesterfield 0-1 Leicester City
Crystal Palace 0-1 Norwich City
Gainsborough 1-1 Scunthorpe United
Grimsby Town 0-2 Doncaster Rovers
Lincoln City 0-2 Sheffield United
Northampton Town 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday
Notts County 2-3 Derby County

On the back of the embarrassing 6-1 drubbing to Leyton Orient, Newcastle took on Leeds at St James Park. A mere 16,000 fans turned up to watch the Magpies draw 0-0 with Simon Grayson’s men who very nearly snatched a win with Jermaine Beckford going close.
Ryan Taylor had a handful of chances himself but was denied by the crossbar as well as a last ditch block in front of the Gallagher End.
Other results are as follows:
Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 Coventry City
Newcastle United 0-0 Leeds United
Nottingham Forest 1-1 Stoke City
Plymouth Argyle 0-0 Hearts
St Albans 1-4 Watford
