Barnsley 1-2 Coventry City
Freddie Eastwood got his Coventry City account up and running when he fired the Sky Blues ahead in the opening 12 minutes at Oakwell. Eastwood admitted that his goal was a lucky one as he confessed that it was meant as a cross as opposed to an attempt on goal. Nevertheless the Welsh international will be delighted he has got that ever important first goal and will be hoping it is the first of many.
The visitors almost doubled their lead but instead the Tykes went up the other end and equalised through Brian Howard, to send the teams in level at the break. Julian Gray, the former Birmingham man got the winner with 20 minutes to go before Iain Hulme was dismissed for the home side.
Coventry go top whilst Barnsley languish in the bottom three at this very early stage.
Bristol City 1-1 Derby County
Paul Jewell is still waiting for his first win in the league as manager of the Rams as they had to settle for a draw at Ashton Gate. Nicky Maynard, City's summer signing from Crewe, put the home side ahead with his first goal for the club.
After some stern words were exchanged at half time, Derby came out all guns blazing and within just 7 minutes of the restart, the Rams were level thanks to a Paul Green effort.
Derby lie in 17th whereas City find themselves in 7th.
Burnley 0-3 Ipswich Town
Despite having been filled with pre-season promise, Burnley recorded their second straight defeat on Saturday thanks to a 3-0 drubbing from Ipswich Town. The Tractors Boys were 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Trotter and Haynes with the third coming via an own goal by Alexander.
Burnley are rock bottom, Ipswich are 10th.
Doncaster Rovers 1-1 Cardiff City
The Championship new boys made it unbeaten in two thanks to a 1-1 draw with Cardiff at the Keepmoat. It looked like Rovers were going to take all three points having been 1-0 up with just 2 minutes of normal time remaining. Guy put them ahead after 67 minutes but thanks to McCormack on 88 minutes, Cardiff returned to South Wales with a point for their endeavours.
Doncaster find themselves in 8th whilst occupy 6th place.
Norwich City 1-1 Blackpool
The points were shared at the Carrow Road also with Norwich and Blackpool's fixture on Saturday finishing all square. Ben Burgess put the Seasiders ahead from the spot after Elliot Omozusi brought down Adam Hammill in the box before Russell equalised for the home side.
Norwich are in 19th and Blackpool are 16th.
Preston 2-0 Crystal Palace
Preston made it three wins out of three in all competitions following their 2-0 win over a tough Crystal Palace side. With the new Invincibles Pavillion open for the first time, the Deepdale faithful had to wait until the 58th minute before it witnessed its first goal. Barry Nicholson was the man in question as he got his first for his new club although it has to be said it could be one for the dubious goals committee to decide on. Richard Chaplow capped off the game with a neat strike in injury time to send the Preston fans into jubilation.
Preston enjoy the dizzy heights of 2nd place whilst Palace see themselves lie in 21st having only managed just the one league point.
Reading 2-0 Plymouth Argyle
A no nonsense display and two goals from Sonko saw Reading victorious against Plymouth at the Madejski on Saturday, as they got their first win ahead of their bid to return to the top flight at the first time of asking. Sonko, who scored his first goals in 18 months but the home side ahead after heading in a Stephen Hunt cross from 6 yards before combining again with Hunt to make it 2 after 50 minutes.
Reading move up to 5th where as Plymouth are currently in 18th place.
Sheffield United 3-0 QPR
Billy Sharp netted a hattrick and seems to be recapturing the sort of form from his Scunthorpe days which will give Kevin Blackwell food for thought in terms of his team selection. It took just two minutes for Sharp to get his first after heading in a Darius Henderson header from close range. 11 minutes later and it was 2-0, again from close range as Sharp showed his goal poaching prowess to finish from two yards after getting on the end of a rebounded Michael Tonge shot. After 51 minutes the hattrick was complete and enough to seal the points for the Blades who are now in 11th as opposed to QPR, who are 15th.
Southampton 1-2 Birmingham City
The Saints fell to the second defeat of the season thanks to a 2-1 home defeat to Birmingham City. Centre back Chris Perry did put the home side ahead after heading in a Lee Holmes corner only for it to be cancelled out just 5 minutes after the restart. Kevin Phillips got the winner after 77 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute meaning that its two wins for Birmingham as a result of Phillips' goals who now find themselves in third. Southampton meanwhile will have to make do with 23rd place for now.
Swansea City 3-1 Nottingham Forrest
Swansea hit back instantly following their defeat to Charlton on the opening day with an impressive win over much fancied Nottingham Forrest. A Smith own goal after 9 minutes and a Perch equaliser after 35 minutes looked to be all the game could muster up. That was until 71 minutes when Bodde put the home side ahead and Pintado sealed the points and indeed concluded an entertaining closing moments of what was an all league one fixture last season.
Watford 1-0 Charlton Athletic
Hoping to make it two from two, Alan Pardew's men suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Watford. Aidy Boothroyd will be desperate to show that his Hornets should not be dismissed in terms of the race for promotion a win over the Addicks should be enough to add weight to his claims. Tommy Smith got the only goal of the game after 28 minutes sending Watford up to 9th. Charlton meanwhile are in 12th.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday
It was Wednesday's turn to concede four goals as they fell to an impressive and rampant Wolves side. Chris Iwelumo began to show the Molinuex faithful why McCarthy was right to bring him to the Black Country as he netted two goals with Ebanks-Blake (pen) and Edwards completing the scoring for Wolves. Esajas had put the Owls ahead after 15 minutes but once Iwelumo got his first, the was no let up.
Wolves find themselves in 4th whilst the Owls are 11th.
