Clive Clark was born in Leeds on 19 December 1940 he played in the Outside-left position and was classed of one of the fastest wingers of his time.
Clark joined his home town club Leeds from Ashley Road Methodists in January 1958 but didn’t make a league appearance.
In August 1958 Clark joined QPR and made his debut on 6 September 1958 in a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth. He stayed for just under two and a half years making 58 appearances, scoring 7 goals.
In January 1961 Clark joined West Brom and netted 80 goals in 301 appearances in nearly eight and a half years and was a virtual ever-present from the early days. Clark finished top scorer for West Brom with 19 goals in 1966/67 as Albion finished 13th.
He was a member of the Albion side which reached three cup finals between 1966 and 1968. Clark scored the third goal in a 4-1 second leg League Cup Final victory over West Ham at the Hawthorns as Albion winning 5-3 on aggregate. The following year Clark scored two twice in the 7th and 36 minutes to give Albion a 2-0 lead at half-time in the first Wembley League Cup Final on 4 March 1967. But three QPR second half goals in 18 minutes saw the side, who played two divisions lower to win the cup and so Clark got just a runners-up medal. But he won a FA Cup Winners medal with West Brom on 18 May 1968 with a 1-0 victory over Everton.
In June 1969 Clark return to QPR in part exchange with Alan Glover, but his stay was a short one as after 7 months and 1 goal in 8 appearances Clark joined Preston in January 1970.
Clark made his PNE Debut on 24 January 1970 with a 1-0 home defeat to BristolCity. He made 13 appearances during the season, scoring one goal in a 2-1 home defeat to Portsmouth on 21 March.
With PNE’s relegation to Division Three for the first time in their history saw a new manager for the 1970/71 season with Alan Ball senior taking over the reigns. Clark made 33 appearances during the season and scored 4 goals, his goal in the 3-0 home victory against Rotherham in front of 28,224 on 4 May 1971 saw Preston clinch the Third Division title.
His most successful goal scoring season for the Lilywhites came in the 1971/72 season with 5 league goals from 19 appearances, Clark also scored a brace in a 4-2 win over Bristol City in an FA Cup Third Round tie on 15 January 1972.
Clark made his last Preston appearances in a 4-1 defeat at Millwall on 17 March 1973 after 9 goals from 72 appearances.
In July 1973 Clark joined Southport but in one season he scored just once in 8 appearances. Clark later joined non-league Telford before finishing his career in the USA with NASL sides Washington Diplomats and Philadelphia Fury.
