Some things still fail to astonish me such as;
How the referee failed to send at least one player off throughout the course of the game?
How Preston after several gilt edge chances failed to hit the back of the net?
How Derby failed to score from an open goal from six yards out?
The first half was pretty even with Derby settling the quicker and exploiting Preston's nervousness although Lonergan was rarely troubled beyong the odd routine save. Preston did manage to get a grip of the game towards the end of the half with their best chance seeing Wallace hit the bar from a free kick.
Preston then cam eout much the stronger in the second half and their recent record of failing to hit the target was concsistent throughout the second forty five. Creativity was not a problem but finishing was just woeful.
Parkin missed a free header with an open goal from inside the six yard box. He then missed a tap in from a similar distance. Chaplow missed a free header from six yards out. Wallace played Davidson through who failed ot hit the target when clean through instead hitting the post.
Preston ahd numerous other chances, all of which were high wide and handome or the keeper made a comfortable save. Derby had a chance to snatch the game midwya through the second half when they hit the bar and from the rebound six yards out the follow up was smashed wide.
Preston have to improve their finishing if they are to pick up points in the many games coming up over the festive season.
