This was the last chance the supporters had to see Preston in action before the real stuff starts next week. The starting eleven was certainly different to that which ended lats season with Wallace making his debut and Jarrett featuring in midfield with Anyinsah on the right wing.
Most of the eleven played over an hour with Irvine making some substitutions late on. Once again the goalscorer was Neil Mellor who was brought down when bursting into the box. Davidson is meant to be the official penalty taker this season but with the Scot on the bench, Mellor put home the penalty late on to give North End the lead before Matt Hill powered home a header to score his second in pre-season to seal the victory in injury time.
All in all Preston have had a positive pre-season with only one defeat at home to Premiership club Everton. They seemed to have sured up defensively whilst finding Mellor up front in some good form. The only criticism would be that against Everton creativity was lacking but against all the lower league sides Preston managed to notch up a few goals.
