It has been a strange transfer window for Preston but this probably tops it all off in the most surprising move of the window which sees Ben Davies move to Liverpool.
The fee as per usual is undisclosed but reports suggest Preston will receive around £500,000 up front with the deal worth £2 million in total and a 20% sell on clause.
It was always known that Davies was set to leave Preston as he was out of contract in the summer and had failed to sign a new deal. North End failed to cash in and as January arrived it appeared that Davies was set to join Celtic on a pre-contract deal moving permanent in the summer.
Liverpool then gazumped Celtic as they desperately needed cover at the back given their ever mounting injury situation. A late deal was struck allowing Davies to move for a fee to Liverpool.
Davies has excelled at Preston in recent years after spending time on loan earlier in his career. He has been the first name on the team sheet and there is never any complaints about his effort and performances.
It will be sad to see such a good player leave and for such a small fee but equally it will be interesting to see how well he can do when he is given his opportunity at the top level.
