Sheffield Wednesday had a very remote chance of still making the top six whilst Preston had little to play for but both sides flung themselves into an entertaining game at Deepdale.
A debut was given to Ripley in goal whilst Rafferty continued at right back with Fisher on the left. This leaves a question mark over Earl's status in the squad as he was left on the bench.
Preston raced into a two goal lead with a helping hand from the visitors. Stockley was given a start up front and grabbed his opportunity. He headed home from a Robinson free kick.
North End have missed a big target man up front and he must now be pressing for a starting place next season. Shortly afterwards Preston doubled their lead.
Rafferty drove into the box and Lees scored what seemed like a comical own goal as the ball went past the helpless keeper. The visitors were very poor in the first forty five.
After the break Wednesday came back into the game. Bannan curled in a spectacular finish from the edge of the box to edge the away team back into the game.
Preston then went ont he counter and Alan Browne finished to give the home team another two goal advantage. This was soon wiped out as Wednesday came back into the game.
Foresteiri was allowed space in the box to head home before Nuhui headed home an equaliser moments later. Both teams then went for the winner.
There was more drama as Iorfa was sent off for a high reckless challenge with ten minutes to play. He slid in from several yards away to take his man and was shown a straight red.
The game ended level although Preston will be disappointed they did not hold on to their lead. Johnson had a good game in midfield winning balls in the absence of Pearson who was rested and Ledson who was suspended.
Preston have areas to work on for next season if they want to improve on mid-table but they have the ability to challenge teams and score goals.
