Defender on trial at Deepdale

O'Neil, who was recently on trial at Stoke, is well known to Preston boss Craig Brown from his international days.

"Brian is training with us at the minute so that we can have a look at him. He played under me for Scotland and has played at the highest level," Brown told the club's official website.

"He plays as a centre-back, but can also operate as a midfielder which would give us a bit more versatility should we decide to move for him.

"I must stress that we are only looking at him at the minute and we are one of many clubs interested in him."
