North End started the game the better of the two sides and had chances to open the scoring in the first twenty minutes. Johnson probably had the best chance inside the box but couldn't convert.
Millwall then played higher up the pitch pressing the home team who just couldn't get going. The visitors grew more and more into the game and looked like a team who were causing trouble.
The only goal of the game came when the Preston defence were caught out by a looping header. It ended up dropping to Hutchinson who was free int he box to nod home from close range.
The defeat was a disappointment after a recent unbeaten run. Preston now face a tough end to the month with a West Brom and Fulham away preceeded by a home game against Hull which is now a vital match.
Preston remain in sixth place but only just as the chasing pack have closed the gap on the top six positions.
