It is clear that Doyle was not the first choice for summer signings for Grayson. Tom Bradshaw was at the top of the list but after being priced out of the market Preston returned for Doyle who sepnt last season on loan at Deepdale.
The striker has been poor since leaving Chesterfield. Cardiff signed Doyle for a feee of around £1 million and have made a significant loss in selling him to Preston.
Whilst Doyle can play out wide he was average at best last season scoring a handful of goals and looking lightweight. He will be competing with Garner, Makienok, Huhgill and May (when fit) for a place alongside Beckford who seems to be the only capable striker of getting a decnet return at this level next season.
