Only a couple of months ago Preston fans would not have even known who Josh Earl was let alone what position he played in. Earl joined the first team squad in pre-season after he had completed his training with the youth team.
It was anticipated that the 18 year old would spend time out on loan but the injury to Greg Cunningham early in the season propelled the youngster into the limelight.
Neil picked Earl ahead of O'Connor and the youngster has impressed in the opening month or so of the season. Reports suggest that Leeds and Newcastle were interested in signing the player whilst Brighton, Bournemouth and Liverpool have all sent scouts to watch the left back.
It was clear that Preston were going to move quickly with Earl only on a short term deal after joining from the youth ranks. He has a few more months before Cunningham returns trying to re-take his left back spot.
