Welsh signed from Tranmere Rovers in 2012 when the Graham Westley undertook a complete overhaul of the playing staff. Despite the traumatic Westley tenure Welsh remained at the club and prospered as club captain under Simon Grayson.
The midfielder enjoyed success at Deepdale but has found the step up to Championship level difficult. He has been overtaken in recent years by younger players including Ben Pearson.
There have been no complants from Welsh who has featured as a bit part player this season even managing a red card in the home game against Wolves.
He has been an asset and an ambassador to the club and will be sorly missed. He is likely to join another club and will no doubt be a success wherever he goes.
