Evans was signed in January from Fleetwood on loan initiailly before it was converted into a short term deal to allow Preston the opportunity to use additional loan player in the matchday squad.
It is fair to say that his signing didn't go down well amongst some of the fanbase partly because of his history and also because he was plying his trade in League One for Fleetwood.
The frontman has played well at times capped with a good finish at Millwall. Essentially used as a battering ram Preston were never signing someone who was going to score a bagful of goals to shoot Preston up the lead.
In reality Preston are unlikely to sign someone better on a free at the wages Evans is on. The strangeness appears to be that the extension was given whilst the managerial position is still being discussed with a decision to be made at the end of the season.
It seems that whoever takes the helm will be working with Evans next season although it is unclear who will be manager at the start of next season.
