McAvoy took charge after Alex Neil was fired last season. He initially steadied the ship and steered Preston away from any relegation troubles. His interim period was converted into a more permanent role.
This season McAvoy has stumbled and suffered with some poor performances. His inexperience has been questioned and frustration with the fans has grown through the last few weeks.
Realistically North End should be in a better position than just above the relegation places. A string of results could easily lift them up the table but the decisionw as made to release Frankie from his duties.
It will be one of the shortest tenures as manager of the club and we wish him well in future endeavours but Preston now turn to the future. Ryan Lowe has been installed as favourite with an appointment due before Saturday.
