North End despatched Barnsley at home on Boxing Day thanks to a Paul Gallagher penalty althugh in reality the scoreline could have bene a lot more with Preston having a number of chances.
Two days later and Preston took a point away from the game at Crewe. North End always find it difficult away at Gresry Road and this was no different despite Preston having much of the ball.
Crewe took the lead late on in the game but sub Beckford managed to equalise. The frontman did have a couple of other chances which should have been converted and might have meant a different result.
Preston remain three points behind the leaders but did progress through to the FA Cup 4th Round after they defeated Championship side Norwich City.
The visitors had no attempts on target all afternoon as Preston's defence held strong. Two goals from Gallagher ensured the victory thanks to neat build up play with both although the Norwich defending did assist with the second.
North End will find out who they play in tonight's draw.
