North End lined up for their final game of the season with Kirkland deputising for the injured Lindegaard whilst Beckford partnered Garner up front.
The game very much had an end of season air about it. The game kicked off at 12.30 and there was very little activity ont he pitch as both teams were assured of a mid-table finish.
The real action came in the second half. There was crowd surfing from the away supporters from the top to the bottom of the Kop and there was also some action due to poor play on the pitch.
A ball was heading harmlessly towards the edge of the box away from goal. The Leeds attacker decided to chase and was comfortably going to win the ball before deciding whether to turn and play a ball into the box.
Kirkland, apparently once an England keeper, rushed out of the six yard box for no reason whatsoever to make a flying tackle. He may have got a touch on the ball but the whole affair was totally unnecessary and the referee awarded a penalty.
Wood converted the penalty to give Leeds the lead. Preston did manage to equalise in injury time. Hughill was on as a substitute and chased down a ball out wide forcing his opponent off the ball.
Hughill then looked to play in his fellow substitute Doyle but the ball was cut out and ended back with Hughill who managed to fire home the equaliser.
North End finished the season in a very respectable 11th position on their return to the Championship. Many players had an outstanding season but Preston have now set a benchmark by which they will be assessed in the forthcoming seasons.
