The Whites are keen to cash in on their star striker who if they had refused his wishes to leave the club would have been available at the end of the coming season on a free transfer.

"We have to be realistic," chairman Derek Shaw told the club's official website.

"There is no point holding on to a player who is not 110 per cent behind the club and his team-mates."
