It has been announced on BBC Radio Lancashire that two long-serving PNE staffers have now left the club. Both of them former North End players, Ryan Kidd and Simon Davey, who were in charge of the youth and reserve teams respectively have been replaced.
It seems Davey declined the offer of an alternative position within PNE's Youth Development program and that the split was less than amicable, the matter now being in the hands of solicitors.
Heads roll at Deepdale
The new man charged with leading North End's bid to find and develop talented players is Glyn Salmon, who was no doubt "poached" from Tranmere Rovers where he has spent the last five years heading their "Centre of Excellence".
Unofficial sources suggest that the PNE manager Billy Davies has been less than impressed with the quality of players coming through the ranks at Deepdale and has already bought young players from elsewhere in the form of Hibbert, Hill and Nugent.
More than ever before, the success - and even the survival - of football clubs hinges on their ability to attract and develop players from an early age. The old adage "success breeds success" is certainly true in this context, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal or Liverpool having no problem in attracting the very brightest young talent to their production lines while the the less successful clubs must fight for the scraps that fall from those high tables.
It may not have helped North End's pulling power to have their proposal for a new training ground building rejected by the Town Council, but ultimately it seems that the Deepdale moguls decided it was time for a change of staff in their bid to ensure that "The future's Bright ... the Future's WHITE"
