Hume was scheduled to stay at Deepdale until December to conclude a 93 day loan before the potential for the move to be made permanent in the January transfer window.
The striker had suffered a loss of confidence at Oakwell after being seriously injured whilst playing for the Tykes. His form has picked up at Deepdale and he was hopeful of a move away from Barnsley.
Unfortunately, Barnsley have decided to call back Hume through a clause that was inserted into the loan deal allowing them to recall the striker after 42 days.
No one is sure why he has been recalled as the player himself wants to stay at Deepdale and Preston seemed prepared to negotiate either a cash or player swap deal for the striker.
The Canadian has expressed a desire to stay at Deepdale and hopefully the issue will be resolved at some point this week.
