North End sit int he bottom three with no pints after a disappointing night at home to Derby when they appeared to have gained their first point of the season only to be dashed at the last.
Grayson started with a 4-4-2 formation. Robinson and Beckford both started after combining for the goal on Saturday against Fulham and it was the former who attacked Derby with his guile and pace causing them trouble at times.
Gallagher moved into a central role which suited him well last season and when Preston played at their best. The problem still remains that either Pearson or Welsh has to play alongside Gallagher as a ball winning midfielder.
Derby started the brighter and Preston were not in the game for the first twenty minutes. The visitors attacked but could not convert any chances. The closest was a curling effort from outside the box which hit the post.
North End came back into the game stronger thanks to Robinson who will have to be given a run of games after his recent performances. His pace troubled the Derby back line.
Preston controlled large parts of the second half without causing the visiting keeper too much of a problem but tight games in this league can change upon a moment.
Grimshaw and Pringle played down the right and it is clearly an area that needs strengthening defensively. A ball came in with three minutes remaining. Forsyth managed to get ahead of Pringle and head home.
Preston were unable to come back and suffered their third defeat in three games. There are now two tough trips to QPR and Ipswich before the first international break of the season. It is a possibility that North End may be five down five lost.
