Twenty-three-year-old Smith should complete his move from Glentoran today (Friday) after undergoing a medical.
"It's a good deal for the club at the moment, it's a position that has become more of a priority with the movement of Ricardo a strong possibilty," chairman Derek Shaw told the clubs official website.
He's a player both Craig Brown and Clive Middlemass have monitored for a while now and they both believe he has a good chance of progressing.
"He also plays for the Northern Ireland international side and by all accounts he links well with David Healy which is a bonus."
