The Liverpool Daily Post and now also the Lancashire Evening Post website have circulated stories that the Deepdale board are interested in Irvine and he himself has recently thought about leaving Everton for a managerial position.
Irvine is assistant to Moyes at Everton and has been coaching for over 15 years after finishing his professional career in 1992 with Blackburn. He has never had the numbe rone post and it is believed he wishes to test his ability as the main man.
Irvine is now in contention alongside Sammy Mcilroy, Steve Cotterril and Rob Kelly if reports are to be believed.
