The rumours have been replicated around the Lancashire press with some even saying that Irvine has been spotted in talks with the Deepdale board.
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet but there were strong hints from the board that an appointment was likely before the weekend and with most of the press hinting at Irvine, the Scot could well take charge before Preston's televised clash with Charlton this Saturday.
