Norwich struck early when Idah was played through to slot past Ripley. In no time at all the lead was doubled when Hernandez shot from range. Ripley allowed the ball to squirm under his body when he should have easily saved.
Prior tot he break Ripley rushed out of his box to clear. He only passed the ball straight to Idah who lobbed the ball back into the open goal from distance.
Preston did improve in the second half. Bodin nodded home from close range and at times it did appear that North End were mounting a comeback. This was thwarted when the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Ripley rushed off his line to bring down the Norwich forward. There was a hint of offaside but it wasn't given. Idah converted the penalty for his hat trick.
Harrop did grab a consolation late on but despite some better play in the second period Preston were undone by a goalkeeper who badly let his side down.
