Westley lined up with new boy Aneke in attack with Hume whilst Nicholson paired with Proctor in midfielder forcing Coutts out right with Parry on the left.
Bury were in need of the points to haul themselves uo the table but lacked a cutting edge to trouble a stern Preston back four who appear to be growing in confidence over the past few weeks.
The visitors did trouble Preston on the odd occassion in the first half but all in all it seemed as if the Preston defence had most things under control without the Whites showing too much of an attacking presence at the other end.
Aneke looked strong and did well in the air. He was a perfect foil for Hume as he won a lot of balls in the air allowing Preston to attack but there was nothing that really troubled the visitors in the first forty five.
Bury forced a refle save from Stuckmann after he saved a point blank header from a corner. The visitors threatened coming close to opening the scoring. They were having the better of the play when Preston scored almost on the break.
Aneke had been switched to the right and appeared to be fading when the ball fell to him. He swung his left foot at it and the ball took a deflection past a despairing keeper.
Despite Bury coming forward Preston should have sealed the victory when the returning Mellor was put through but screwed his left foot shot wide.
Moments later as the game entered injury time Bury smashed the bar with the rebound falling to an unmarked attacker only yards out who converted. There was some controversy over a possible foul in the build up from Bury but nothing was given and a point was what they deserved.
