The two teams played out an entertaining match with goals, red cards and more in an action packed game. North End eventually came out on top 2-1 to close the gap to Fulham.
The game came to life in the first half. Maguire who has received criticism recently managed to score from close range. The forward swivelled in the box firing home.
Moments later Odoi was sent off for the visitors. For some unknown reason he decided to launch into the returning Bauer with his arm knocking the big man to the floor. He was given a red card.
Preston were then reduced to ten men when Rafferty was sent off just before the break for a high challenge. Pearson was also lucky not to see red after a sliding challenge with two feet.
The home side had numerous chances and doubled their lead when Nugent scored his first goal since returning to the club from around a yard out after the keeper could not keep out the initial effort.
Fulham had chances as well. They hit the woodwork and had shots just wide before Mitrovic managed to score late on to set up a frantic finish but Preston managed to hold on.
The play off positions are now very tight in terms of points and there are a number of teams vying for those spots as the top two have created a gap over the rest.
