Changes were inevitable going to be made with three games in a week and even more so after Preston's embarrassing display in the final twenty minutes away at Brentford.
Grayson still has the dressing room and the players all seem to be willing to play for him as shown last night with numerous players on the fringes pulling together for a win against a Premier League team.
In the past thirty years you can probably count on one hand the times that Preston have beaten top flight opposition. Even more impressive is that Grayson has managed to now equal Preston's best performance in the League Cup by reaching the 4th Round.
Out of the wilderness came Ben Davies to play alongside a returning Huntington and Wright atthe back. Due to Vermijl's injury, Grayson was almost forced into playing Humphrey as a wing back. Pearson also returned after a haetus and even Clive Smith made the bench.
Makienok was the star of the show after having an abysmal time coming off the bench on Saturday. He gave Preston the lead in the first half. A cross from Humphrey caused troubled with the ball ending up at Makienok's left foot who slotted home.
Bournemouth came back in thegame with Maxwell keeping out the home side until Pringle was adjudged to have handled a free kick in the box. Grabban scored the penalty and then with 15 minutes remaining Gosling cave the Cherries the lead.
Preston did not give in with Makienok equalising before the end to send the game into extra time before adding his third of the night during the 30 minutes to give Preston a victory.
Grayson now has some difficult choices ahead for Friday. He needs a fresh team but the manner of defeat at Brentford and some of the performances are still frsh int he mind. Selection will be interesting.
The draw for the 4th Round will take place after tonight's games.
