Local reports in Liverpool suggested that McGeady was set to agree a permanent move to Preston with a transfer fee of arond £2millon attached to the deal.
The transfer is complex because of McGeady's wages which are around £42,000 per week and Preston cannot match this. It was hoped that McGeady's remaining year would be paid up allowing the winger an opportunity to take a reduced wage at Deepdale.
A deal has not yet been agreed and Middlesbrough who are backed with Premier League money and parachute payments after relegation are ready to make a move for the winger if Preston fail to secure a deal.
