Callum Ainley became the latest name to be linked with a move to Preston before the deadline expired. The young midfielder was linked with a move but reports suggested that Crewe had rejected an offer from Preston.
Earlier in the window Preston tried to sign Josh Windass from Rangers. They were put off by the price of around £1.5m although reports suggested that Preston bid around the £1m mark.
North End turned their attention to Oxford's Ryan Ledson. Oxford were holding out for around £1.5m although Preston were only prepared to make an offer around £700,000.
It seems that Preston are trying to get decent players for bargain basement prices but rightly the lower league clubs are not budging in what is an inflated market. Perhaps it's time to return to the League of Ireland again...
