North End travelled to prmotion chasing Brentford on what proved to be a very Good Friday for the London side. Over 1600 travelling fans made the journey but all to no avail as Preston put in one of their poorest performances of the season.
Brentford were equally poor but you could forgive them with the nerves of being so close to promotion. There were three main talking points of the game and none of them concerned Preston attacking.
The first was a penalty which looked to be dubiously awarded in the first half. Replayes suggested more of a dive than an actual foul. Judge slotted home the penalty.
The second half proved much of the same with very little in the way of attack from the visitors. Brentofrd were awarded another penalty which again looked a touch harsh. Judge blasted the spot kick over.
The only other point of note was a shot well saved by Rudd pushing the ball on the post. Brentford edged the game and over the season deserved their promotion. It was a shame Preston could not give them more of a test.
Easter Monday saw Preston put in a better performance as they emphatically defeated a poor Shrewsbury side who are rooted int he relegation places.
Preston went two up int he first half thanks to goals from Holmes and a thumping volley from Bailey Wright. A mix up between Laird and KLing at the back allowed the visitors to pull one back before the break.
Gallagher then slotted home froma Beavon cross int he second half before sub Brownhill was dispossessed in midfield which led to a Shrewsbury counter attack and goal.
Preston then sealed the game thanks to a Gallagher penalty after Browne was nudged in the box although it appeared to be a touch harsh. Gallagher then completed his hat trick curling in a free kick from the edge of the box.
North End sit in fourth on goal difference behind Rotherham with Leyton Orient dropping two points behind after losing at home to Wolves. All three have two games remaining and it is a case of who will finish in what order from third to fifth.
