Michael Tonge made his debut for the Whites and settled in well into the midfield in what was a close affair. North End were jittery to start with as Newcastle controlled the first fifteen minutes but the North End defence held firm.
In all honesty neither keeper was put out of their comfort zone throughout the match despite both sides having several attempts. Parry headed over for North End whilst Tonge and Chaplow had long range efforts.
The main concern for the home side was an injury sustained to Youl Mawene who collided with Lonergan ont he stroke of half time. The defender looks to have sustained ligament damage and could be out for some time.
The game looked to be heading for a stalemate before Newcastle who were having a subdued second period managed to snatch a winner. Nolan was left free in the box and was allowed to swivel, turn and fire home with his left foot past Lonergan from an acute angle.
Preston are now sitting in mid-table after a poor run of results with the goals seemingly having dried up over the past few games. They now travel to Blackpool next Monday for another big game in front of the cameras which could prove to be decisive in Preston's season.
