North End Lack Bite

Sheff Wed are flying high in League One after adjusting to a lower level of football last season and took away their first league victory at Deepdale for over half a century.

Preston made two changes with Smith coming back in at left back allowing Parry back on the wing but more interestingly Doyle was absent from the line up as Proctor returned allowing Barton to play in midfield.

The Whites never got into the game and the match was over almost before it had started. THe visitors looked solid as a unit if not that spectacular going forward.

McCombe sliced a ball out of play and it was debateable as to whether it was a throw in or a corner. A corner was given but it was Preston's abysmal defending that left Batth to head home unchallenged.

Soon after Hume went off with a recurrence of his knee injury and with his departure went any creativity that Preston had as Tsoumou came on up front.

Preston then went two behind as Marshall was left free on the left. He turned inside and shot. A deflection meant the shot looped over Stuckmann but to be honest he was given so much space it was untrue.

The home side rarely looked threatening as Wednesday were content to hold in the second half. Barton looked poor whilst Douglas came on for Proctor and headed wide. The visiting keeper had little to do all game.

Wednesday found it difficult in their first season back in League One but are now flying. If Preston are to do the same then they will need to make the right managerial appointment as this might be a job too far for Alexander and Unsworth.
