The second coming of David Nugent was surprising and a disappointment. Rarely in the Derby County side it was somewhat of a shock when Preston signed him a couple of sumemrs ago on a two year deal.
His experience was cited as being invaluable in a young side still trying to force itself up the Championship table. In reality he wasn't fit enough to play back to back games and he lacked the cutting edge as well as pace from his youth.
The move didn't work out and Nugent failed to make any impact being restricted to the bench more often than not. At the start of this season an agreement was reached for the striker to train away from the first team allowing him to move from the club if something came up.
It is understood Nugent has kept fit and Tranmere have agreed a loan move for Nugent until the end of the season which is when his contract at Preston will expire.
If Nugent wants then I suspect he could last a couple of more seasons and bag a hatful of goals inthe lower league. He will be fondly remembered for his first spell at Preston but everyone is just glad the second spell has now ended.
