David Nugent who has 18 months left to run on his contract stayed at the club despite continued interest during the Summer transfer window.
His performances this season at club and international level have impressed watching manager's including Steve Mclaren. Interest has come from several corners including Portsmout, Middlesborough and Newcastle who are all set to start a bidding war in January although it appears a £5 million asking price may not put them off.
Simon Whaley has also been linked with a move away from Deepdale with Newcastle and Blackburn interested for a fee of around £2.5 million.
Simpson will be hoping to keep hold of both his prize assets in his sides push for the Premiership.
