Burnley tried hard and with the effort they put in it is hard to see why they have been losing so many games recently.
Preston's performance was much improved but once again Lonergan made a save from Lafferty which he pushed onto the post early on. Clear cut chances were few and far between but the top man came to the table on the top occassion. Ormerod chested down and Nugent stabbed home from inside the box to give North End the lead.
Wade Elliott then proceeded to forearm smash St Ledger in the face and get away without a booking from the lenient referee Webster.
Preston looked to push on for the crucial second which would put the game beyond doubt as Burnley played a lot of long balls towards Akinbiyi and Jones. Branch was brought on for the visitors (he must be about 40 by now - I remember when he played against us in the 90's!) and he had a shot from outside the box which looped onto the bar.
Burnley then resorted to desperate tactics with a blatant dive in the box being waved away by the referee. The game was then put beyond doubt as the Whites went up the other end of the pitch with Nugent tormenting the defence to place a pass for substitute Agyemang to slot home to give North End the victory.
Preston now have a two week break before a succession of away games which will be crucial in Preston's promotion chase. Burnley have to look deep and create more clear cut chances if they are to avoid dropping down further.
