Most will know that Preston were the innaugral winners of the Football League with their Invincibles side. Whilst Preston are not expected to go this season unbeaten they do look like a solid outfit who will keep a few clean sheets this season.
Wolves arrived in town with a large travelling contingent - the largest for a while at Deepdale in terms of a league gate. They are promotion favourites given only two seasons ago they were in the top flight.
Grayson has not lost a home game since taking charge at preston earlier this season and his team setup resemebled the attitude of wanting to not get beat against a tough opponent.
Preston played a 4-5-1 formation. Clarke was given a debut at right back whilst Keith Keane slotted into a three man midfield. Davies had his first start as the lone front man and Humphreys started out wide.
Chances were few and far between throughout the whole game with both sides cancelling each other out. Rudd probably had one meaningful save in the whole match with Welsh also clearing a shot off the line.
North End had a couple of half opportunities and Davies proved a real handful to the Wolves backline who appeared to adopt the top flight mentality of hitting the deck whenever touched. The referee stayed strong for the majority.
Hume came on towards the end as Preston changed their shape to a 4-4-2 but they could not nick that all important goal. Fans should not be too disappointed.
Having watched League One football for the past couple of seasons there will be far poorer sides than Wolves who visit Deepdale this season. North End looked solid as usual but with a bit more flair they should be able to dispose of inferior opposition.
Overall a solid start which Preston need to build on. No doubt there will be changes for the cup match against Blackpool with such a short recovery period. Once that is over it is back to concentrating on the league.
