North End came intot he game on the back of a poor performance away at Swindon with any chance of gettin automatic promotion all but extinguished. Before last night Preston had onyl won one game, away at Orient, against the fellow top six sides.
Grayson started with Beavon and Garner up fron in a change with indicated that Grayson is willing to experiment in these last few games given that Preston, barring a major collapse, will make the play off positions.
The home side were poor at the start of the gamea dn this was summed up when the ever reliable Kilkenny passed a ball in his own third to an opponent. The visitors used the numerical advantage well with Samson firing home.
Kilkenny made up for his error just before half time. Preston delayed on the ball and it seemed that the opportunity was lost before a pass was made out to Kilkenny who slotted home on the angle.
There could have been goals at both ends with Peterborough having an effort cleared off the line and North End hitting the bar before the final ten minutes.
Gallagher had a left foot curler which hit the post. Garner pounced on the rebound to slot hom. The striker then added another close range effort in injury time as Preston sealed the win with a late goal of their own for a change.
The win further distanced Preston from sixth placed Peterborough. Preston remain seven points behind Brentford who were beaten by Rotherham last night. North End must simply carry on winning to get some momentum ahead of the end of season knock out.
