Poor Preston Punished

Wolves had the majority of the play in the first half an hour testing Lonergan althought the home side managed to keep the visitors at bay. Wolves eventually took the league from a cross that was converted by Iwelumo with his back to goal.

Preston appeared to have hit back straight away as the ball was placed int he net by Mellor but he was adjudged to be offside. Only moments later Parkin won a header and streoked past the stranded keeper. The referee was the only man who believed Parkin had fouled his counterpart in winning the ball.

The referee also missed two more crucial moments in the match when Preston had to penalty claims waived aeway by referee Atkinson. The Premiership referee certainly appeared to favour the former Prmiership club.

Preston then gifted the game away in two moments of madness. Hart gave the ball away in midfield which left Wolves through on goal and Iwelumo slotted home. A rash challenge in the box then allowed Iwelumo to convert from the spot.

Irvine through caution to the wind and hting sturned slightly when the hat trick man Iwelumo inexplicably head butted St Ledger. Iwelumo saw red and Preston piled forward in the last fifteen but to little effect.

Preston then managed a consolation in injury time as Whaley was pulled down by the Wolves keeper who was then promptly red carded. Mellor converted the penalty.
