Despite the Lancashire Senior Cup rules meaning new boss Paul Simpson having to field a somewhat inexperienced and youthful side in the final, the same theme kept on reocurring. Preston's lacklustre attempts in front of goal mean that the match headed for a dreaded penalty shootout.

Simpson due to the rules of the competition had to field a young side but nevertheless most of the players had first team experience. Brian Stock had the best chance of the night being put through one on one with the Oldham keeper only to smash against the inside of the post.

North End had an abundance of chances but without the firey Nugent they looked woeful in front of goal. The match went to a penalty shoot out with Wilson missing only to be equalled by an Oldham miss. It went to sudden death and new boy Chilvers was the unlucky man who gave Oldham the trophy.

Simpson must now be desperately looking for a new man to partner Nugent up front as the team are creating but just not scoring.
