The majority of the squad got a full ninety minute run out with youngsters making up the majority of the bench in each game. Preston were defeated by a solitary goal by Ash Hunter on Friday evening away at Fleetwood where Nugent made his first start for the club in a forty five minute stint.
It is likely that the striker is still a few weeks away from full fitness. As per usual it is expected that he may feature in some bounce games behind closed doors and may well feature in the League Cup and a place ont he bench for the first few league games.
On Saturday Preston managed to overcome Newcastle. Shelvey gave the visitors the lead through a free kick from thirty yards out. The ball swerved but Rudd appeared to make a mistake as he only manged to deflect the ball into his own net.
North End rarely threatened in the first half but were vastly improved after the break. They secured victory through two penalties. One for handball and one for a foul in the box. Gallagher converted both spot kicks for the victory.
There are still concerns for North End ahead of the season. The goalkeeping position is still causing issues and may costs Preston vital points again this season.
Injuries are also impacting a couple of players ahead of the build up to the season. Potts doesn't appear to be at full strength and there are clearly question marks over Bodin and Nugent who have both been out for some time.
Unless there are any last minute additions the squad will resemble pretty much the same as last year save for Robinson who left and the two free transfers. Neil will have to try and get the maximum out of his squad if they are to have any hope of finishing higher then mid-table.
