After Preston's first league victory at the weekend North End looked to build upon that game away at Morecambe in the Second Round of the League Cup.
Changes were made and Riis seemed to be the main beneficiary who impressed with two goals in a 4 - 2 victory away at Morecambe. He will be hoping to have a chance in the league given his impressive early season scoring run.
Riis opened the scoring in the first ten minutes after he was played through on goal by Daniel Johnson. He then doubled the lead after the Morecambe keeper collided with the defender thus spilling the ball and Riis just tapped home.
Just before the break Morecambe pulled one back after O'Connor tapped in at the back post. The home side then levelled after the break after an effort from range by Stockton went in.
Ledson then fired North End back into the lead with a shot from outside the box before Van den Berg tapped home from close range late on to seal the victory.
Preston now need to build on the last couple of games to accumulate more points in the league and to hopefully move away from the relegation places.
The draw for the Third Round of the League Cup could see Preston face one of the big guns with all remaining teams entering at this stage of the competition.
