Hemmings was the sole onwer of Preston North End for over a decade although his involvement in the club stretches back over four decades at differing levels.
A statement was made by the club confirming the sad news that the 86 year old had passed away. The club then moved swiftly to honour Hemmings at the home game against Derby.
Tickets were slashed to £5 for both home and away fans which resulted in a bumper crowd at Deepdale. It was also billed as a day to help the charities that Hemmings was a great supporter of.
A period of appreciation was held prior to kick off with fans encouraged to wear a flat cap in honour of Hemmings who was always seen wearing the famous headwear.
Flowers and tributes were left outside the Sir Tom Finney statue and his passing brings an end to his tenure at the club.
