After a disappointing opening day result Preston went into the League Cup tie away at Mansfield needing a result and a positive performance. They came out the other side with a three nil victory.
Changes were always going to be made irrespective of the defeat at Hull. Despite an indifferent first half Preston managed to knock three past Mansfield as they defeated them for the second year in succession in the League Cup.
For the record Sinclair opened the scoring. Riis scored for the second consecutive game before Sinclair added another late on. Preston will now travel to Morecambe in the next round.
It is hoped that Preston might be able to build upon this result. Sinclair is in the last year of his current deal and is the most accomplished finisher at the club so his ability will be much needed this season.
Riis has shown good early form and if he can continue then it will assist Preston greatly in trying to resolve the lack of a goalscorer which has plagued the club in recent times.
The season is still young and it will take a few weeks for things to even out but hopefully Preston can now move forward.
