Watford changed their whole side from the weekend and whilst Preston didn't go quite that far there were a number of changes including Browne and Brownhill featuring int he middle. Reid also played out on the left with Vermijl returning on the right after injury.
Preston took the lead early in the game when Vermijl found himself clean through in the box. He duly slotted past the advancing keeper and Preston were the better team for the first half.
North End failed to capitalise on their dominance and Watford came into the game more afterthe break with Pickford making a terrific save to flick over a shot from distance.
The game was marred with a sending off as Bailey Wright was elbowed in hisown box so the visitors were down to ten men for the last part of the game which assisted North End.
The draw for the next round wasmade and Bournemouth will vists Deepdale in September.
