Preston are set to play away at Stoke on Monday but their last game was over three weeks ago. North End were due to play away at Millwall a week before Christmas but the game was postponed due to positive covid tests in the Millwall camp.
Less than a week later and Preston had an outbreak of positive tests so the Boxing Day fixture at home to Sheffield United and away game at West Brom were both postponed.
North End were likely face a fixture pile up later in the season alongside a number of other Championship clubs. The players are now back in training after the training ground underwent a deep clean and Preston do have sufficient numbers to field a team at Stoke on Monday.
The game is currently scheduled to go ahead but things do change fast in the present environment so it is a case of watching this space.
