Preston defetaed Charlton at the Valley by a solitary goal which saw them jump to the top of the league table. The stay is likely to be temporary as West Brom play bottom club Stoke in the Monday night game and a win would see the Baggies go back to the top.
The game against Charlton was hard fought although North End looked the better team for large parts of the ninety minutes. Rudd was rarely threatened except when the home side tried to salvage a point late on.
Maguire looked lively in a wider position whilst Stockley was given a rare start up front on his own. The frontman was man handled to the ground inside the box in the second half and he caused the home defence numerous problems.
The referee awarded a penalty and Gallagher converted which gave Preston all three points. North End temporarily go top but will be satisfied that they are keeping pace with the top few teams after 15 games.
